Johor Art Gallery

The Johor Art Gallery houses various art collections, artifacts and many items closely related to the heritage Johor Malaysia since its inception in 1993. In 1999, however, the Johor Menteri Besar YAB announced that the Johor Art Gallery would also be the Center of the Arts and Culture for the State of Johor. Restoration efforts were undertaken to create a gallery worthy of being known as one of the best in Malaysia.

A walk through the building turns out to be an experience in itself. Strong cry colonial influences in the design and architectural details of this building with 2 floors. True to Malay customs, the shoes are prohibited on the main screen area below, so that one is obliged to examine the displays and paintings barefooted. The main screen area welcomes the visitor with beautiful works of art born in Johor various talented artists. From paintings to sculptures and many other works of art shown here. The undeniable shared pride among the artists here shows his love for Johor’s rich heritage, culture is still very much alive today. Favorite topics of interest include kepang kuda, el Ghazal, beautiful calligraphy pieces. Fishing scenes is also prevalent. Still pictures of small fishing boats tied to poles in coastal areas, fishermen, people back home from the sea with gifts every day, and many other eye pleasing, gentle soul masterpieces.

The upper level also many beautiful works of art, such as two old wooden doors with ornamental carvings hung on the walls as you have to walk to the second floor. One can only avoid providing fine craftsmanship forever embedded in the two doors. Walking upstairs, you can also take a look at the ground floor of the middle section because it is an open space upstairs, where a beautiful chandelier casting a soft ripe yellow tones throughout the room.
