Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque is certainly a great feat of architectural design and is also a brilliant legacy of Islam in this country. The mosque is considered by many as the beginning of modernization in the state of Johor when he was commissioned in 1990 by Sultan Abu Bakar. This highly respected monarch was widely referred to as the “Father of Modern Johor” as seen through a series of projects in the state. The mosque was built with a grand total of MYR400, 000 and can accommodate up to 2,000 worshipers at one time. The mosque is used for congregational prayers are held daily, while the Friday congregational prayers are for men only. Non-Muslims are allowed to visit the mosque except on Fridays and during communal prayer, but before doing so make sure you are dressed appropriately. People can enter the mosque for free.
Masjid Negeri Sultan Abu Bakar is Johor’s state mosque, located on Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. It was constructed between 1892 and 1900, under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar. The architecture of the mosque was largely based on Moorish styles, along with some Malay influence.
